2012 is deservingly qualified as being perhaps one of the most spectacular growing seasons in recent history for Ontario. This wine is a perfect reflection of that season’s depth.
Stylistically different from the previous vintage, our 2012 Heritage is a full bodied, Amarone-style wine. This blend consists primarily of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and a very small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. After harvesting, 100% of those varietals were dried naturally in the Appassimento style, crushed and aged in newer French oak for two years.
On the nose, notes of stewed, red fruit and leather are complimented by hints of violet. On the palate, strong tannin gives way to a silky smooth mouth-feel filled with dark plum, sweet cherry and coffee. Notes of dried cranberry, vanilla and a touch of caramel linger on this lengthy, warm finish.
