2013 Heritage

By: KEW Vineyards

Product Description

Heritage is a word synonymous with tradition, ancestry and legacy. It is no coincidence then that our 2013 Heritage is named in honour of the tradition in which it is crafted, the estate from which the fruit is grown and the legacy we hope it will lead.

Cabernet Franc is often called the “grape of Ontario”. It manages to thrive here and produces wines that are fully expressive of our unique – and often frustrating – terroir. Using only Cabernet Franc for this vintage, the wine was carefully crafted using the appassimento method, as well as extended neutral oak and bottle aging, resulting in a release nearly four years after harvest.

The bright acidity that Ontario is known for remains present in this wine, while the tannins have softened and smoothed out. This wine’s initial aromas of red cherry and leather evolve to bolder notes of coffee, chocolate and tobacco leaf. The tannins gather and develop as you enjoy this wine. Aging in oak for two years, the finish to this wine remains elegant and silky smooth.

Spicy foods should be avoided when enjoying this wine, as its higher alcohol content will amplify the spice in your meal. The aromatic complexity of the 2013 Heritage allows for more interesting pairings than your average steak – think barbecue or veal Parmesan. The alcohol content takes easily to heavier foods and rich cheeses like goat or feta, while braised meats are also wonderful matches.
