The earliest plantings of our Chardonnay vines date back to 1978. The maturity of these vines and their offerings validate Ontario as a leader in producing traditional Chardonnay wines.
WINEMAKER'S NOTES
This chardonnay was aged in neutral oak barrels to allow for the development of a richer texture while preserving the bright fruit character of the wine. This resulted in a wine with rich fruit forwardness and a bright acidity.
On the nose, notes of tropical fruits and nectarine are complemented by a subtle hint of caramel. Fleshy yellow pear, peach and limestone dominate on the palate, keeping this wine bright and fresh. Aging in oak for six months allows for that beautiful minerality – a true signature of the Beamsville Bench – to provide structure to the finish, while the oak development maintains length and balances out the initial fruit forwardness of this wine.
FOOD MATCHES
This Old Vine Chardonnay would go well with proteins, especially those with a healthy fat content. The bright acidity and mineral character of this wine perfectly compliments richer offerings such as pan-fried chicken thighs, shellfish. Excellent cheese pairings would include Brie, or medium cheddar cheeses. Go for those cheeses with other flavours to provide a contrast to the wine, such as smoked cheeses.
