On the nose, notes of vanilla, caramel and flambéed bananas are most prominent. Flavours of fleshy lemon and stone fruit dominate, while a fresh minerality can be found layered underneath notes of ripe pineapple. Barrel fermented and aged for eleven months in oak, there is a long and smooth finish that balances out the initial fruit forwardness of this wine. That hint of minerality suggests that this is a wine that will continue to age beautifully for years to come.
This Old Vine Chardonnay would go well with lighter proteins, especially those with a healthy fat content. The bright acidity and mineral character of this wine perfectly complements richer offerings such as pan-fried chicken thighs, shellfish – or if you’re feeling particularly adventurous – escargot. Excellent cheese pairings would include Brie, or medium cheddar cheeses. Go for those cheeses with other flavours to provide a contrast to the wine, such as smoked cheeses, or those with a bit of bite.
