Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are traditional grapes of the Champagne region and are most often paired together in a sparkling wine. Though we often use these grapes for our sparkling portfolio, 2020 marks the third vintage where we have brought Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier – and now, Pinot Gris - together for a still wine. The result is a crisp and well balanced rosé.
From a historic vintage, this 2020 Rosé spent a relatively short period of time on skins at the start of fermentation, leaving us with a beautiful coral colour. With such a ripe vintage behind it, this rosé demonstrates depth and layered complexity.
On the nose, subtle orchard blossom opens up into more expressive notes of strawberry and fleshy watermelon. Bright stone fruit follows through on the palate alongside a pleasant hint of mandarin and white grapefruit. Savoury and floral notes on the finish are complemented by notes of ripe red fruit and passionfruit. Dry with a lighter body and a fantastic acidic backbone, this wine has an elegant, smooth finish.
The 2020 Rosé’s fruit forwardness needs a pairing of equal weight. A salad featuring roasted nuts, fresh peach and a light vinaigrette would be a great match. In terms of protein, think along the lines of grilled scallops, or oven roasted chicken with rosemary. For cheeses, keep things light and fresh with mascarpone or a whipped goat cheese.
